Hotel Review
Access/Check in
This hotel is within a 5-minute walk from Tawaramachi Station on the Ginza Line. However, since I was traveling with my mother-in-law and two children, and we had suitcases, we took a taxi from Ueno Station. For those traveling by JR or arriving at Ueno by express train, a taxi might be more convenient. It cost about 1,000 yen and took about 10 minutes to get there!
In addition to the Ginza Line, the Oedo Line’s Kuramae Station is also within a 10-minute walk, and heading north, you can reach Asakusa Station. It’s a very convenient location for sightseeing in Tokyo!
Impressive Self-check-in process
As soon as you take the elevator up to the front desk floor, you’re greeted by tatami benches. And to your right is the check-in counter. Who assists you at the counter? A Samurai!
When you stand in front of the counter, a 3D character appears and assists with the check-in process. Guests follow the on-screen instructions, and the room key card is issued.

If you need any assistance, we can use phone nearby checkin machine and call staff. (He really came soon)
Room Review
The main reason we chose Henn na Hotel Asakusa Tawaramachi this time was because it had connecting rooms. With my mother-in-law and kids going to bed by 9 PM and us wanting to go out during our short stay in Tokyo, this setup was perfect. After getting the kids ready for bed, they could sleep with my mother-in-law, while we went out for another drink😆 When we returned, we could shower and prepare for bed in the room where no one was sleeping. In the morning, we reopened the connecting door to move between the rooms. With a larger group, having two bathrooms and sinks was simply more convenient.
In one of the rooms, there are two single beds and a small desk, which is convenient for placing items or having breakfast. The room is equipped with basic amenities like a small refrigerator, kettle, tea set, and a safety box.
There isn’t much storage space, but there is a place to hang clothes right by the entrance.
The sink and bathroom
The bathroom is a simple unit bath, but the fixtures are very clean. It’s equipped with essentials like shampoo, body soap, and toothbrushes.
Facility
For sightseeing in Tokyo, the luggage storage lockers are very convenient. If you arrive before check-in time, you can leave your luggage here.
On the same floor as the front desk, there’s also a manga and game corner. The manga selection includes many popular titles. I even saw some foreign guests filming themselves playing the UFO catcher game. ☺️
The laundry facilities are also convenient for long-term stays or families traveling with children.
There are laundry facilities installed on the 3rd, 7th, and 10th floors. It costs 800 yen per load (as of September 2023) for both washing and drying. The process takes about 2 hours. Payments can be made with cash or 100 yen coins only 💦 It’s a good idea to prepare your 100 yen coins by using the automatic change machine located at the far right of the check-in counter before going to the laundry facilities.
Welcome Drink
This hotel has a sports bar on the front desk floor. Upon check-in, you receive a welcome drink ticket that can be redeemed here. You can choose from Pilsner Urquell beer from the Czech Republic, Tokyo craft beer, highballs, or juices.

When we visited, the Czech beer was out of stock, so we had the craft beer instead. It was delicious..!!
There is no water or similar amenities provided in the room, so we bought large bottles of water from the convenience store on the first floor each time we needed it.
Breakfast
The restaurant on the front desk floor also serves breakfast. The lineup includes a variety of options such as Japanese and Western dishes, as well as Indian curry and lassi.
Additionally, for bread lovers, the famous bakery Pelican is just a short walk away.
Pelican Bakery offers delicious, simple bread like sliced bread and rolls that never get boring. If you walk to the other side, you’ll find Pelican Café, which uses Pelican’s bread. At the café, you can enjoy toast made from Pelican’s sliced bread grilled over charcoal, as well as sandwiches made with their rolls.
Other Room type
This time, we stayed in connecting rooms with two standard twin rooms. However, there are also family-friendly rooms and rooms suitable for those traveling with young children.
Panda Family Suite Room

This room is completely themed with pandas, from the beds to the room decorations. It features two single beds and one double bed, accommodating up to 4 guests (or 7 with extra bedding).
At 31 square meters, it’s definitely more spacious than the 17-square-meter room I stayed in. As a suite room benefit, the amenities are from the luxury Thai spa brand THANN. Additionally, it comes with an LG Styler, which allows you to clean clothes while they are still hung up!
Enjoy a panoramic view of Tokyo Skytree from the Corner Suite!

This room features two semi-double beds and one sofa bed, accommodating up to 3 guests. It’s distinguished by its view of Tokyo Skytree from the room! A highlight is the separate bathroom with a washing area.
As with other suites, it includes an LG Styler and THANN amenities. In the winter season, when you have coats and sweaters that you want to keep fresh without washing, the LG Styler is especially useful for maintaining them.
There are also rooms with separate baths and toilets, as well as rooms with low bed heights that are safe for young children. This allows you to choose a room that fits your number of guests and budget.
Hotel Review from Booking site
We used the room on the first day of the Obon holiday for three people: our elementary school-aged child and us. Given the price, we had no expectations, but we were pleasantly surprised!
The room was spacious enough, and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom and toilet were separate, with a bathtub and washing area, making them very user-friendly. The sink was as spacious as in a typical apartment and very clean, probably because it was new. The room also had a home cleaning device that can sanitize and deodorize clothes.
With the essential amenities, this hotel is perfect for a Tokyo trip where you don’t need to enjoy hotel facilities but just need a good place to stay. It’s also great that there’s a direct connection to the convenience store on the first floor. The location is excellent, as it’s within walking distance to Senso-ji Temple and the nearest station.
Although there are many international travelers, it was very quiet. We chose the room-only plan because we prefer eating out in Tokyo. Overall, this hotel offered excellent value for the price and was a pleasant surprise.
Given the location in Asakusa, it seemed like more than half of the guests were foreign tourists. I believe the hotel was fairly full, but once inside the room, it was very quiet, and I was able to sleep peacefully at night!
